The s-word

The last time that I used the word bastard pronounced like “shay jay” in my language carelessly was a very memorable one. I did not even know that “shay jay” meant bastard. All I knew was that it was an insult that was supposed to make the receiver feel some amount of pain. Unfortunately for me, I used it on my brother. My mother who happened to hear me gave me a strict warning never to use that s-word on any of my siblings. The reason was that the “shay-jay” which meant bastard used on my siblings was also an insult to her.  The message went home because I began to think more about the words that I chose to use every day.
