My friends and I got to attend this awesome programme organised by Vodafone Ghana on the 4th of March,2014 at the Alisa Hotel in North Ridge. The theme of the programme was Mobile for Good. People talked about the advancement of the mobile industry in Ghana. There were also suggestions about the ways in which mobile technology could be used to bring about social change. The programme was so insightful. People spoke about diverse ways mobile technology is being used to bring about change. Some people were using phone calls and help lines among other ways to bring about changes in people. Initially when I heard about the Mobile for Good programme, I thought that it was going to be all about software development and other things that would involve some coding.
Some people also raised concerns about the poor phone etiquette of Ghanaians which did not seem to improve with time. Others said that in rural areas, getting network reception could prove very difficult. The main concern however was that disabled people, particularly the deaf and dumb people are often sidelined in Ghana.
By the end of the programme, the messages were that there are a lot of opportunities in mobile technology and that as a people ,we should not leave disabled people behind in any technological advancement. I was really glad that I got to be at such an event because I was inspired by the things that people had to say.
